The problem it solves

Nigeria’s distribution networks need significant investment, and directing it well depends on good operational data. Today, that data is often limited. Many utilities have partial visibility of how their transformers and feeders perform, which customers each asset serves, and where losses occur. Regulators have few independent sources to confirm the supply customers receive against their tariff band. This makes investment harder to target, justify and finance. For utilities, Electra provides real-time data on network performance linked to location. This helps them identify underperforming assets, areas with poor supply and likely sources of revenue loss, and prioritise upgrades, metering and maintenance accordingly. It also gives them operating data that can support conversations with lenders and investors. For regulators, Electra offers an independent measure of service quality. It can help them check supply against tariff bands, track whether approved investments improve service, and inform tariff and capital expenditure decisions with measured data. Nigeria’s new digital postcode allows this to be extended to individual buildings, linking each one to the asset that serves it, its use (residential, commercial or industrial) and the supply it receives. This gives utilities and regulators a clearer view of demand and service gaps by area, to help guide where investment goes.
